About the role:
The Senior Alcohol Licensing Inspector provides leadership, support, and expert guidance inadministering and enforcing alcohol licensing legislation and Council bylaws. They assist in mentoring inspectors, ensuring high service standards, and implementing strategic process improvements for the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Responsibilities of the role:
  • Mentoring and supporting the training and development of licensing inspectors and partner agencies.
  • Assisting in improving team processes, report consistency, and best practice strategies.
  • Leading compliance and enforcement activities, including investigations and monitoring of licensed premises.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders (Police, Health, Fire) to manage applications and promote harm reduction.
  • Delivering high-quality customer service and maintain accurate licensing records and reports.

What you'll bring:
You will be a highly experienced and qualified professional with over 5 years in alcohol licensing, enforcement, or local government, capable of leading, mentoring, and delivering under pressure with strong legal knowledge and communication skills.

To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:
  • Over 5 years' experience in alcohol licensing and enforcement, including hearings.
  • Experience with participation in alcohol related hearings in front of the DLC and ARLA.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and staff development abilities.
  • Sound knowledge of interpreting legislation and case law and regulatory systems.
  • Proven ability to prioritise, multitask, and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • A full clean New Zealand Driving Licence.
