We’re looking for an experienced Gym Instructor to join our passionate team based at the Queenstown Events Centre. This is a permanent role working around 25 hours across the week, including weekend work.

Lakes District Council is at the very heart of a dynamic community. Our services are essential to the people in our region and include infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services.

We’re proud to be QLDC, and in response to the growth the district has experienced over recent years, QLDC has itself experienced substantial growth. We genuinely believe in developing our people and providing them with all the tools and opportunities needed to succeed.

About the role:
A busy, enjoyable position, you’ll be providing a high level of customer service to all members and prospective members ensuring they are aware of additional club services and events. You will assist members with how to correctly and effectively use gym equipment and will be responsible for new membership sales and assisting with the retention of existing memberships.

Responsibilities of the role:
  • Providing gym start-ups and follow-ups as per procedure and maintaining contact with those customers to encourage retention
  • Taking proactive, preventative steps to supervise and control the use of all gym equipment ensuring that a safe and enjoyable environment for customers is maintained
  • Carrying out regularly scheduled operational plant or equipment maintenance as delegated
  • Liaising with new members via the phone and one-on-one contact to provide support and encouragement in achieving their health & fitness goals
  • Maintaining positive relationships with local clubs, groups and societies, actively promoting sports and recreation.

What you'll bring:
You’ll have previous experience working in a gym environment and will have a high level of knowledge of equipment and fitness best practice. A naturally strong communicator, you’ll enjoy engaging with our varied customer base and providing coaching and instruction. You’ll also be confident and capable in responding to any emergency situations.

To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:
  • A current NZQA affiliated First Aid Certificate. Unit standards 26551 & 26552 (preferable).
  • New Zealand Certificate in Fitness Level 3 or higher.
  • Experience in the supervision and control of the public.
  • A background in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Education or related field is preferred
