The Finance Officer – Rates is responsible for helping the rates team maintain Council’s rating database ensuring that accurate account records are kept, and customers are responded to with accurate account information in a timely fashion.

About the role:
The Finance Officer – Rates is responsible for helping the rates team maintain Council’s rating database ensuring that accurate account records are kept, and customers are responded to with accurate account information in a timely fashion.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Assisting with rates invoicing and collection of rates
- Responding to ratepayer enquires regarding their invoices and payments
- Processing account adjustments, transfers, refunds and remissions
- Maintaining the rating database, including processing ownership changes and address updates
- Processing direct debit payment arrangements

What you'll bring:
Proven finance skills, ideally 2 years of prior processing experience and you will need well developed communication skills across both written and verbal. Our ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills where you can relate well to all kinds of people with a courteous and efficient manner.
In addition to this, you’ll have:
- Level 3 NZQA qualification with demonstrated operational and technical knowledge within accounting and/or finance
- Proven experience (at least 2 years) in a finance administrator or receivables role
- Basic understanding of local government processes (consents, land ownership, etc.) with a working knowledge of Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 would be advantageous
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gain their trust and respect
- Methodical and accurate, with a commitment to accuracy and quality
