The James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor is one of Wellington’s most well-known Hotels. James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor is home to Whitby’s Restaurant and Bar which is famous for its superb a la Carte and Buffet menu. We also operate a smaller more intimate restaurant, Sojourn Café and Bar, 8 Conference & Event rooms, and a 24 hour room service menu available for guests staying in one of our 269 guest rooms.

The ideal candidate for this role will:
  • Have a minimum of one years' experience in a large hotel is preferable
  • London City and Guilds Qualification or a Diploma in Culinary Arts
  • Be able to work in a fast paced and busy environment
  • Passion for working with food
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Have the ability to liaise with different departments
  • Experience in catering for conferences, buffets and a la carte is an advantage

The position will include, but is not limited to:
  • Food preparation including washing peeling and chopping of items.
  • Ensure all recipes are strictly followed and dishes displayed are identical to the photograph provided of each dish.
  • Assist with the plating and presenting of meal items as directed by the senior Chefs.
  • Ensure the correct preparation of food is completed to avoid waste.
  • Ensure adequate levels of mis-en-place are prepared and maintained as required for service.
  • Rotate stock daily to ensure all fridges, freezers and dry store are kept tidy.
  • Ensure all tasks are adhering to Food Hygiene Regulations.
